The season opener for the 1999 Flying Disc Dog
Open took place at the Ft. Belvoir Army base in Virginia on April 17th 1999, a few miles south of Washington DC. A big doggone thank you to the National Capital Air Canines, William
Linne and Kevin Robair for hosting this event in their area. Their dedication and hard work made it possible to bring the FDDO to the east coast. 22 competitors, 12 pros and 10 amateurs, took the field on
a partially cloudy, but beautiful, spring day. Gusty winds added to the intensity of the competition. The field looked great decked out with the sponsors banners. Competitors from Georgia, Indiana, Maryland,
Pennsylvania and Virginia came and the fur began to fly. Cash prizes totaling $1000 dollars were up for grabs in the Pro Division. There were prize bags for top placing Amateurs and all
competitors received a FDDO disc and selected pet products from our sponsors upon sign-up. Congratulations in the Pro division go to Jeff
Stanway and Cody “The Dixie Flyer”, Champions of the FDDO East coast event, decided by an awesome tie breaker, taking the top prize bag and $500 cash. Second place went to Rick Wagner and
his flying canine “Shark,” dressed as his name implied, taking home the second place bag and $300 dollars. Third place fell to Melissa Heeter and
“Asah” with crowd pleasing leaps taking home the final prizes and $200 cash.
